Drone
Pick the aircraft you'll fly the mission on. Camera FOVs and the WPML mission file format depend on this — Pilot 2 will reject a mission built for a different airframe.
M30T (default), M3T (Mavic 3 Thermal), and M4T (Matrice 4T) are supported. Other drones: use the "Request drone" link in the panel footer.
Camera
WIDE: best for general area search. Wider swathe = fewer strips = faster coverage.
THERMAL (IR): detects body heat through vegetation. Narrower FOV = more strips needed but can find a person hiding in dense bush at night.
SPLIT SCREEN: calculates grid using IR's narrower FOV so thermal has full coverage. Wide camera gets over-coverage (fine). Fly one mission, watch both feeds simultaneously in Pilot 2 split screen. Best for SAR where target may be mobile.
Flight Parameters
ALTITUDE: higher = wider swathe = fewer strips, but targets appear smaller. 40–80m is typical for SAR.
OVERLAP: how much adjacent strips overlap. Higher = more thorough but longer flight. 60% recommended for SAR.
GIMBAL: MANUAL = pilot has full control throughout, no resets. NADIR LOCK = gimbal snaps to -90° at each waypoint. Use MANUAL if you may need to investigate a POI mid-mission.

Where you'll physically take off from. Drives the RTH-height calculation. Decimal lat,lng or DMS. If unset, we assume the lowest pin's terrain elevation (conservative).
⚠ What the terrain scan covers · per-pin altitude = local terrain + AGL buffer. Each segment is scanned for terrain at ~20 m stride; ridges trigger pre-climb + post-descend transit waypoints. If a launch point is set, the launch → first-WP segment is scanned too. RTH height auto-set to clear the highest waypoint.
⚠ What it does NOT cover · trees, power lines, towers, buildings, antennas, livestock pens — none of these are in elevation data anywhere. Set the safety/takeoff height (under §Safety) above the tallest known obstacle within ~100 m of your launch point. Local knowledge or a manual reconnaissance is the only data source for these.
Spiral Direction
Start at perimeter, work inward. Best for suspect containment — cuts off escape routes first.
Gimbal Control
Gimbal resets to -90° (straight down) at each waypoint.
Safety & Finish
TAKEOFF HEIGHT: drone climbs straight up to this height before flying to first waypoint. Must clear all obstacles near launch point.
FINISH ACTION: what happens when last waypoint is reached.
RC LOST: what happens if radio signal is lost mid-mission.
Safe Takeoff Height20 m
Drone climbs straight up to this height before flying to first waypoint. Can exceed operation altitude — useful for clearing obstacles like power lines near launch.
Drone Heading
Nose follows flight direction. Drone turns at each waypoint.
Waypoint Turn Speed
Balanced turn speed at waypoints. Adjust if turns are too jerky or too slow.
On Mission Complete
RTH: drone returns to takeoff point and lands automatically.
If RC Signal Lost
Go Back: immediately returns home if signal is lost.
Grid Bearing
The heading of the strips — the direction the drone flies along each pass.
0° (↕) = strips run North/South — vertical lines on map. 90° (↔) = strips run East/West — horizontal lines on map.
Tip: set heading to match the LONGEST axis of your search area to get fewer, longer strips and save battery.
Flight Speed
SLOW (3 m/s): maximum time on target. Best for thermal at night — sensor needs dwell time.
MED (5 m/s): balanced. Good default for daytime wide camera.
FAST (8 m/s): covers large areas quickly. Use when you need a first-pass sweep before battery runs low.

Confirm the safe takeoff height clears all obstacles near launch.
Check airspace, NOTAMs, weather, and your authorisations every flight.
